Answers to Common Questions

We want to make sure all your questions are answered

Are your family portraits a photo or a painting?

Actually, they’re BOTH a photo and a painting. To create your Uniquely Different Family Portrait we start with a process called Composite Photography before blending it with a Digital Painting process, which is why our business is called PHOTillustrator. If you’re looking for a portrait that’s “Different” from the average traditional portrait, I guarantee you’ll love what we create for you.

Do you travel outside the DFW area to create family portraits?

Yes, definitely! We are frequently commissioned to travel throughout the U.S. to create Uniquely Different Portraits for our clients. If you live in Dallas and want us to travel or you live in another city, the first step is to call us at (214) 945-3226 to secure the dates you’d like for your portrait session.

How much do your family portraits cost?

That depends but our portraits start at $950 for our Staged Portrait style. Regardless of whether you’re on a budget or want to invest in an amazingly personalized piece of artwork for your home, we have a portrait style for you. So, if you reject the average boring portraits of yesterday and want something fun and Different, we’re confident you’ll be over-the-moon happy with the price you pay for your portrait.

How long will it take to get our family portrait?

That really depends on you but 2 to 6 weeks is the average time it takes to create and deliver your amazing family portrait. We’ve had families who’ve wanted their portrait within 2 weeks and we’ve worked with families who had no defined deadline for their portrait. Either way, we’ll work with your schedule and do everything we can to meet whatever deadline we set.

What size of portraits do you offer?

We offer all portrait sizes from 24″ all the way up to 70″+. A common rule of thumb is that your family portrait shouldn’t be smaller than your television and since the most common T.V. size sold today is 55″, our most common portrait size is 60″. If, however, the space you have for your family portrait is of a different or odd size, don’t worry because we’ll work with you to make sure you get the perfect size for your Uniquely Different Family Portrait.

When is the best time to schedule our family portrait session?

Right Now! Because of how different our family portraits are, our calendar tends to fill up pretty quick, so book your Discovery Session now.

Do you charge more for really big families?

Yes! For both our Classic Portrait and Signature Portrait you can include unlimited family members, while our Staged Portraits only allows you to have up to 7 characters. So, if you have a large family and want to include grandpa, grandma, and their pet rooster, you can expect your family portrait investment to be slightly higher.

Can we include our pets?

YES, of course. Your dog, cat, lizard, or parrot is as much a part of your family as your own kids, so we 100% want you to include them in your family’s portrait. Remember, this portrait will be a glimpse into what it’s like to be a part of your crazy family and if your pet’s anything like mine, they’re a huge part of the experience.

Can you create a portrait using my personal photos?

Unfortunately, NO! Because of things like camera angles, perspectives, lighting, and image quality, it’s impossible to create an Amazing Family Portrait like these using photos we didn’t take. Every photograph we capture for your family portrait is captured taking angles, perspecitves, lighting, and quality into consideration. That said, from time to time, when we’re unable to capture an image for your portrait, we may be able to use a photo you have or come up with creative alternatives.
